Bitches on a Budget - A Shout Out, A Review & a Giveaway

So about a month or two ago, a friend of mine posted a link to a Fan Page on Facebook called "Bitches on a Budget."  Ha ha ha ha.  I joined - for no other reason than I loved the name.  The group is currently up to over 50,000 fans!  Click HERE to see it and join!  Little did I know, it was a fan page for a book that recently came out and a blog that is out there (http://www.bitchesonabudget.com/).  And what did this Facebook marketing do?  It made me run out and buy the book.  I'm such a sucker sometimes.

Every Saturday, Bitches on a Budget features a person who gives back.  I wrote a little comment about how I like giving blood because it's free and good and all that jazz.  Little did I know, it was chosen to be highlighted this past Saturday.  No seriously.  Click HERE to check it out yourself.  (And you can see that in reality, I do not look like a possessed Barbie doll).

Bitches on a Budget, written by Rosalyn Hoffman is an extremely witty take on how a pure bitch can survive during economic crisis.  If you lack a sense of humor, this book is not for you.  It reiterates basic strategies to save money and honestly, just tries to get people living in the money clouds back down to reality.  Simple things like drive your car until it doesn't run anymore.  If you don't have money to spend, go to the mall but leave your credit cards at home and bring just enough money for a cup of coffee.  Find fun (FREE!) things to do at home.  How to keep yourself looking like a proper bitch without spending a ton of money.  As well as a ton of other money saving strategies.  If you need a good laugh and/or a few savings tips - go to Amazon (or your local bookstore) and pick up this book.

But wait!  I like this book so much that I'm going to give one away to my readers.  The entry is simple - tell me How or Why You Are a Bitch on a Budget by answering this in a form of a comment on this blog post.  I don't care if you follow me here, Facebook or Twitter.  One entry per person.  I'll delete spam and multiple entries.  This giveaway will end Sunday 2/28/10.  I'll pick a winner through Random.org on March 1st and tell the world.

Again, check out Bitches on a Budget's Blog - HERE, On Facebook HERE, On Twitter HERE.
And me.  Well I can be found here.  Or on Facebook HERE, or on Twitter HERE.

Good Luck!

Love it! Oh, I am definitely a Bitch on a Budget! As a matter of fact, I am, today, doing one of the things you suggested, which is going to the mall just to let my 2 yr old play in the free play area. I will buy lunch, but bring extras like Goldfish and applesauce instead of getting the "meal deal."

I love your Blog Becky! I recently checked out the Bitches on a Budget page, and I like you was greatly impressed.

It is nice to see others like yourself out there. By that I mean I have a serious sense of getting something for nothing where others just pay full price.

I also have a great sense of humor and love to find others that can laugh at the same things as I do.

Bitches on a Budget kinda says it all.
It represents me completely because I go to the mall and bring my Pepsi in my purse. While I am at the mall I run into Victoria Secret with my coupon for free panties. Then for fun we walk down to JC Penny's with my $10 coupon and get my two shirts on that are marked down 75% off with that coupon.
I am feeling kinda hungry so I walk over to the food court and get my free sandwich with a coupon I printed out from a cool site called Bargain Becky.
While I am eating I look down at my super cute BOGO shoes and realize that my entire outfit cost less than $20, but I look twice as good as my cousin does who brags all the time about how much she spent on her everything.
Then I might pop over to Walgreens and buy some pretty make-up for $10, use a $5 off coupon and get $10 in Register Rewards and spend that along with a few coupons on some Shampoo and conditioner that makes my hair look beautiful and a cool toy for my son.
I already have all of the stuff I need to look hot at home from my previous trips to Walgreens.
My teeth are movie star white and will stay that way with my 3 months supply of free tooth whiteners.
I will add the Gorgeous Hair Shampoo and Conditioner to my collection that takes up a shelf one its own.
I think my lips feel even more beautiful and soft when I put the FREE lip gloss and lipstick on it.
I am also so talented and creative that I can look at a decor piece at IKEA and make it myself with free paint my neighbor was throwing out from their last remodel and the free learn how to do it at Lowes.
I take my girlfriends to the hottest yard sales and thrift stores to scour for bargains that others left behind.
I have to stop off at Shaw's on my way home because they will double my coupons and I will get $100 worth of groceries for my family for $24, and Shaw's will give me a coupon worth $5 so I will come back and shop some more.
After a long hard day I will lay my pretty little head down on a a pillow I got for 75% off and a cover up with a goose down comforter that I got for $1.50 at the thrift store. All snuggled and warm I will dream of the deals to be had tomorrow at the Old Navy sale.

(The above is just a creative bitchy rant and some of the information may or may not be changed to depict my complete bitchiness.)

OOOH!! I love this! I am dizzy with my bitch on a budget brain! One thing that I happened across recently was.... I.WAS.OUT.OF.TOOTHPASTE. I know... the horror! I Had to actually PAY for a tube of toothpaste and it nearly killed me. I haven't paid for toothpaste in 3 years! Of course, I blame Smartsource and Redplum for starting to become CHEAP on their coupons with having it be $1 off 3 tubes or whatever instead of one tube. Makes me crazy....
I love reading up on Bargainbecky and I loved the Bitches on a Budget!
I also am recalling something over the weekend that was not a money thing but my coupon rules came into play and I found myself defending my stance, as I would against any coupon I had and I am a stickler for rules and playing by them...... I'll have to post that nonsens on my own blog.... :)
Anyway, keep up the good work, Becky! I love your psycho-barbie style! ;)

This book sounds like something I'd absolutely love. I only recently developed a complete love affair with coupons, MIR, and any other thing that can save me money. Today, I experienced coupon clippers for the first time - I'm going to totally get some Scrubbing Bubbles at Target before the week is out using a great deal - my goal has become to take advantage of the big companies as much as possible.

Oh Becky.... I am a bitch on a budget for sure. I make the cashiers wherever I go frustrated, the people behind me in lines, my husband when the dining room table is covered in flyers, my coupons, envelopes and lists. I annoy my mil because I asked her to save the coupon sections of the paper for me *although she won't admit it. I am still a novice compared to all you ladies though and I have much to learn.

We try and cut corners where we can so we can splurge on the things we truly love! I do the majority of my shopping online and constantly search for online coupon codes, free shipping and sites that give discounts for my Discover card and then get my cash back too. We are die hard Costco shoppers. My husband laughed the other day when he bought something in Filene's Basement for himself because it was the first time he bought clothes outside of Costco in almost a year. We like to go out when we have family in town to watch Xander. Combining coupon offers allows us to really have great nights out!

Ok so I'm deffinatly a Bitch on a Budget and what worse I've converted others to my ways... I always keep my coupons book, rewards cards, etc in my car. But beyond my refund checks and all the saving I get. I think what makes me a bitch on a budget is that I refuse to settle for less when I want something I ask for it. No item is sacred. From calling stores to find items to complete a set when my dinnerware was on sale (I found the complete set at 1/4 the retail cost) to requesting a better price then the tag price for my fridge to getting my bff's Chanel purse for 10% off and no tax charged at major department store its all fare game and thats what makes me a Bitch on a budget.

My 2 daughters were trained from birth to be my Little Bitches on a Budget! As toddlers they would ask "Is it on sale and do you have a coupon?" They are now 17 and 20, cut coupons ( I have to fight them for the Sunday papers!) and shop in thrift stores. They will get up early on Saturdays to yardsale with me!

I'm also a Bitch on a Budget. When my husband, who is, ahem, less frugal then I'd like him to be, tries to mess with the budget, he can assure you that I turn into a complete bitch on a budget! Great giveaway.

I clip coupons and love stores that allow me to stack coupons for the same item. My favorite thing to do is go to garage sales...and now I got my mom doing it too. I try not to buy anything if I don't have a coupon for it because now that I know this lovely coupon world...I can't imagine paying full price for anything, anymore.

One thing that makes me a very nice "bitch" is that I cut EVERY SINGLE coupon out that I see and save them, then if I am with somebody and they are buying an item, I can give the coupons to them. I have even given coupons to strangers ahead of me in line when I see they are buying a item I have a coupon for.

Total Bitch on a Budget here! It's a must in our household w/ only one income! I remember as a kid my mom making a scene in a store about the price being mismarked on some back to school notebooks and I was ABSOLUTELY MORTIFIED! I thought the world had ended fast forward 15 years and I'm totally that mom in front of you in line that makes sure my coupons are scanned correctly, and will wait for that price check. I've yet to embarrass my kids but it will happen..I just know it!

Excellent! I try to follow the mantra of reduce/reuse and recycle when factoring in my personal Bitch on a Budget. I shop second hand for clothes for my family, excluding shoes, I get deals for those ;). We find new ways to reuse furniture and clothes. I make alot of our food items from scratch. Why buy some cookies or a loaf of bread, when I can MAKE some! My 3yr olds favorite activity is packing a lunch and eating it at IKEA then letting her play for free at their Small Land for 90min. I usually then walk the 10mos old in the stroller for nap time and try to get some Mama exercise. I also try to give back to the Universe in other ways. I only work 2days a week and I pump my breastmilk and donate the extra through MilkShare.org. I did it several times with my eldest and now I'm doing it again while breastfeeding my baby. It makes me feel incredible to be able to this. And its FREE :)

learning to be on a budget with our new house, but nothing compared to your bargain status...so much more to learn! Currently learning how to stay warm and fed without power, does that count?

Excellent giveaway, I am a bitch on a budget for sure although it drives my husband crazy, I bring water or soda on all our outings, I always have snacks and drinks for the kids to avoid paying outrageous prices and we utilize free play time at the mall and even go early in the morning so the kids can run around for free!
