January Recap!

For those of you who don't know, I've started a goal this year to spend $5,000 or less on all groceries and disposable items.  This breaks down to about $416 a month.  For January, I spent $304.36 and I saved $636.53 through store sales and coupons.  This is a savings of 67.65%.  This is a little misleading because if most of the stuff I bought WASN'T on sale, I probably wouldn't have bought it anyways.  It also doesn't take into consideration great deals that aren't part of some super sale (For instance, Roxie's.  The savings compared to Shaw's is ridiculous, but it's Roxie's "normal" pricing.  There is no percentage saved.)

Again, I encourage people to start doing this!  Tracking your grocery savings that is!  It's still early enough in the year to look back at your credit card/debit card statement to see how much you have spent.  Feel free to comment or ask questions on easy ways to do this!  I can talk about this stuff all day long if given the chance!!

An easy way to just know how much you've spent on groceries is to keep track of your purchases with Quicken. You can also add a category for "amount saved with coupons."

Thanks Prudent Homemaker! I don't have Quicken installed but maybe I can ask for it for my birthday! Heck, we don't even have Microsoft Office (we are sporting WordPerfect!).

I've heard and sort of tried that Mint.com is good. But it's sort of weird putting all your personal info out there for whoever to steal.

Thanks! By the way, I love your site!
