Crazy 8! 20% off & Free Shipping!

Yeah Yeah Yeah.  Cyber Monday.  Blah.  But my favorite kid's store pulled through!  Crazy 8 is offering 20% off your ENTIRE purchase!  And, to boot, you get Free Shipping on any size order!  Why is this a huge score for me?  Because I have a $10 off $30 purchase coupon that I got at the Grand Opening of the Dedham, MA store.  So I grabbed a few things for my boys!  One in particular for my 2 year-old:

This crazy Bear Sweater!  I love it!  It's screaming, "Run!  I'm going to get you!"

This sweater is only $8.79 (orig. $22.99).  It's in sizes 0-3 months up to 3T.  I grabbed the 3T.  I was going to stock up on pajamas for them for next year, but unfortunately, they seem to be out of all little boy pajamas!  Boo Hoo!

Great Customer Service At Chase!

So I finally called and cancelled one of my credit cards! It had a credit limit of $5,200 - and a zero balance. What motivated me? Well I was sitting at the kitchen table reading my mail. I got some notices from Chase. I actually opened them up and read them. One stated that my APR on one card was going from 6.99% to 9.99% effective 1/1/10. No worries. Zero balance and it's just there for extreme emergencies (like if I max out the $20K on my 2 other cards....). Then the other Chase notice said that my APR on my other card was going from 14.25% to 19.25%! WOWZERS! I didn't even know any of my cards had 14% interest rates on them as is, and the thought of 19+% just blew my mind!

So I was livid. Granted, my "soon-to-be 19% APR" card has a zero balance, I'm just shocked by how high it is. I grabbed my cell phone, my two Chase cards and I was ready to fight these people! They always seem to nag me when I want to close cards, so I figured if they gave me any problems closing this 19% card, I'd just close them both and say good-bye to Chase forever.

Well low-and-behold, Chris Harrington answered my call (such a classy name for a Credit Card telephone guy!). I told him I wanted to close said Chase card and he replied "No Problem!" What! Where is the fight? I wanted a fight Christopher! He asked me why I was closing it and I responded "I just got a notice you guys are raising the APR to 19% and I think that is crazy." His response: "I understand". He offered to lower it but I told him I think I'm good with my other Chase card. I was on the phone for less than a minute with him, he closed my account effective immediately, and now I am here. Dumbfounded. When did credit card people get nice?

Big kuddos to Chase. Sure, you are trying to rip us all off by raising our interest rates on us, but at least you have hired some understanding, no-nonsense people.

Moral of the story? I think a lot of credit card APRs are going up the 1st of the year due to some new federal law about credit cards. If I was motivated, I'd research it before I blogged about it but I'm not that motivated today. Make sure you read those little notices that come in the mail to see if your cards are affected.

Stop & Shop/P&G/RedBox Promo

All purchases must be made in a single transaction to qualify. Your 5 codes will print along with your register receipt. Offer valid from 11/27/09 to 12/3/09 at participating Stop & Shop locations.   I'm sure you can find more info in the flyer or in store.

Shaw's: Ronzoni Smart Taste Stockup Time!

This week at Shaw's, Ronzoni Smart Taste Pasta is $1 a box (we love this crap - it's "healthy" but it's also not whole wheat pasta.  It tastes like normal white pasta).  You can print off $1/2 MFCs off Coupons.com and Smartsource.com.  So it comes to .50 a box.  Very good price for "good" pasta.

Also, you probably have grocery shopping on the back of your mind (like I do), but if you scored a $5 CAT from the J.M. Smucker Company the other week, they expire soon!  Mine actually expires today...so I'll be going to stock up on some pasta.  Can't let $5 go to waste!

Friendly's Gift Card Winner!

Congratualtions to Patty (lucky #5!) who loves Vienna Mocha Chunk!  You won a $10 gift card to Friendly's!

Thanks to all who played - and many thanks to Friendly's for putting on this promo!  Remember - if in doubt about Christmas gifts, give the gift of ice cream!  Friendly's is having a promo at their stores right now.  Buy a $25 gift card, get a bonus $5 gift card for free!  Check them out!  This promo is going on until 1/3/10.

Ace Hardware Today!

I'm kind of anti-Black Friday.  I hate people so I don't like going to stores to score a great deal on one or two products.  I am planning on hitting up my local Ace Hardware today to use the 50% off any one item $30 or less coupon though.  It was in this week's flyer that came in the mail with the grocery circulars.  Will I score something for the husband for Christmas or will I just be selfish and buy something for me?  Probably the later.  If you didn't get the coupon from your flyer, become a Fan of them on Facebook and you can download the coupon off their "Helpful Place" tab!

Remember too!  Cyber Monday is coming up!  You can score some great deals online and never get dressed or leave your house!  My best recommendation is to make a list of things you want to get people and shop off the list.  Don't buy things just because they are on sale or a great price.  If you don't need or want it - you are just wasting money.  Plus, when I go into stores, I'll admit, marketing has it's way with me and I usually do buy more than what I intend to.

I'm off to CT for Thanksgiving (please don't come rob my house), so I just want to wish everyone a Happy Black Friday!  May the bargains be with you whereever you go!  Remember there are also great deals on this here internetz - so leave those pajamas on, grab some coffee and shop with your index finger!

Mama's Pumpkin Pie

No really.  This isn't turning into a cooking blog.  But being the holidays, I figured I share a little of our family traditions.  Let it be known, I do not come from a long line of women who pride themselves on cooking, keeping a clean house or decorating to the T.  No.  We're more the type who like to take short cuts, buy stupid things and laugh at people.  But we can keep up appearances if we need to.  I mean, we are from Connecticut and that's what people from Connecticut do.

Well my Mama doesn't do a lot of homemade cooking.  But there is something Mama does good.  She makes a great pumpkin pie.  I have taken this recipe and will wow my children with it for years to come. I am here to share it with you because it's the easiest pumpkin pie and tastiest.  Plus, whenever I search for Pumpkin Pie recipes, I rarely find one that mimics Mama's recipe.

Mama's Pumpkin Pie

1 29 oz can of Pumpkin (or 2 15 oz cans)
1 can of Sweetened Condensed Milk (Like Eagle brand)
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon (I use a little more)
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp ginger
1 pie crust (frozen or Pillsbury roll out kind)

Put all ingredients except pie crust in a bowl.  Mama mixes it with a mixer, but I just stir it with a spatula until it's all blended.  Pour in pie crust.  Put in oven pre-heated 425 degree oven.  After 15 minutes, turn oven to 350.  Cook for about 40 minutes more.  It's done.  When I was growing up, Mama always used frozen pie crusts.  In the past few years, Mama has taken a liking to the refridgerated roll out kind.  Both are good.  So go ahead, make yourself a pumpkin pie this Thanksgiving season!

The Evolution of a Holiday Door - Part 1

So, I got this bright idea to enter my town's Holiday Door Decorating Contest.  It just seemed like some good old-fashioned Christmas Fun.  I've never decorated a door before.  I mean, other than putting a wreath on it.  Well anyways, the doors are suppose to be done this coming Friday - but I'm going to CT for Thanksgiving so I'm getting a head start.  Now, it's no surprise that those who know me that I'm not really a "classy" lady.  I mean, I know when to keep my mouth shut (most of the time) - but I'm not buying my Christmas decorations from the Pottery Barn.  Oh no.  I went to my recycling bin and local Dollar Tree to start sprucing this joint up.

The actual door decoration.  I decided to make a 5 ft. tall cardboard Christmas Tree and decorate it.  I'll duct tape it to the door.  Then I'm going to have snowflakes on the door too.  So I took some cardboard boxes, duct taped them together and cut out a Christmas Tree.

It seemed a little flimsy.  So I paper mached it.

After the paper mache, I painted it green.  Then I glued tinsel, garland and bells to it.  My husband told me it's one of the tackiest things he has seen in his life.  Score!  It's sitting in the basement waiting to be taped up to the door this Friday.  I still have to make a tree topper for it.  That shall come soon.

Sadly, I had to say good bye to my corn stalks and Happy Harvest sign today.

Today, since the weather was so nice, I put up the garland and found these awesome plastic snowflakes at the Dollar Tree.  I'm going to put lights all over it - but I don't have to worry about that just yet.  I just want the porch to pop some with my door decoration.  Kind of work the porch to my favor.  I have 2 plastic reindeer and a santa coming in the mail.  I'm going to use that wagon up there as "Santa's Sleigh", tie the reindeer to it and put Christmas Gifts in it.  Then "Santa" will sit in a little rocking chair and I'll have cookies out for him.

In the words of Justin Timberlake:  I'm bringing Trashy back!

More updates to follow - the winner of the contest wins a $100 gift certificate to a local garden center.  Sadly, there are no categories or runners up - so I have zero idea of what I am up against.

Cookie Experiments - Maple Cut Out Cookies

I have finished my Christmas Shopping about 2 weeks ago.  I am unusually very excited for Christmas this year. Is it because I know I don't have to go shopping?  Is it because I'm now 30 and "old"?  Or because of the kids?  I don't know.  Anyways - I'll be the first to tell you that I'm no Martha Stewart in the kitchen.  But I've been on a cooking kick lately.  I've been trying new recipes. If I can succeed at baking certain recipes, anyone can.  Plus, I'm blogging them here so I can easily come back to them in the future.  I'm not really good at keeping anything organized in my house.

Maple Cut Out Cookies (original recipe from Gooseberry Patch Old Fashioned Country Cookies cookbook)

I followed a recipe, but made some adjustments. I'm bad at following directions, but I thought these came out awesome.

1 c. Butter or margarine (I used Smart Balance 50/50 Sticks - they seemed to work fine)
2/3 c. sugar
1/2 c. pure maple syrup or the crap you buy at the grocery store
1/3 c. milk
3 1/2 c. flour
1/2 t. baking soda
1/2 t. ground ginger

In medium saucepan, combine butter, sugar & syrup. Bring to boil. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Add milk. In separate bowl, combine dry ingredients. Add cooled syrup mixutre. Mix well. Put in plastic wrap (I used waxed paper) and chill for at least 2 hours (I think I waited 3).

Roll out dough to about 1/4" thickness. Cut with leaf cutter or whatever you want. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 375 for 8-10 minutes (I used parchment paper and cooked at 350 for 8 minutes). Remove to cooling rack immediately.

Maple Glaze (optional)

1/2 c. sifted powdered sugar (I didn't sift mine)
3 T. syrup
Mix and frost cookies (I actually only frosted half of mine and ran out of frosting. Must have gone crazy. I'm just going to freeze the rest and frost them when I defrost them). The recipe said it makes 3 1/2 dozen but I got about 7 dozen out of it. I must have smaller leaf cookie cutters than the lady who made this recipe up.

Still Composting Away...

Just giving a shout out to let the world know that I am still composting away!  I started in March.  It's become so second nature, I don't even think about it anymore.  I fill up a 39 oz coffee can about every other day (or twice a day on days like this - making a butt load of Beef Stew from scratch and there are a lot of veggie scraps).

I just thought as Thanksgiving and winter is approaching, it might actually be a good time to start composting if you have thought about it.  The colder weather means fewer bugs - so you won't be as grossed out than if you started in the summer.

I made a ghetto Compost Bin with stuff we had here.  I took a garbage can that wasn't really needed (and kind of beat up).  I took my husband's cordless drill and drilled about 100 holes all over it.  I think I used a 1/8" bit or maybe even a 1/4".  Or maybe 5/8".  Any of those will work though.  Then I put the top of the garbage can on and have two bungie cords on it.  I actually never bungie cord it closed unless I'm rolling around to keep all the stuff inside.  I haven't had any critters try to get in it.  In the summer, I keep it away from the house (it gets lots of fruit flies - but that's fine - they help the decomposition).  Now that it's colder, I have moved it closer to the backdoor so it's easier.

Here are the common things that I have been composting:

- Coffee grinds (with filter).  The paper filters decompose rather quickly.
- Apple peels (I've been on an apple pie kick)
- Potato & Carrot peels.
- Really, any scrap veggies and fruits.  I will even throw in left over frozen vegetables from dinner in it.
- Egg shells
- Halloween pumpkins & gourds
- Leaves (not a lot - just some)
- Flowers that die

Do not put anything with meat product in it.  I guess it just doesn't decompose - and it will attract animals.

After I cleaned up my garden, I had about an entire garbage can (55 gallons) of compost.  Not all of it was completely decomposed, but I just dumped it in my garden and spread it out.  Now I'm starting to refill it again.  When I raked up my yard, I raked a bunch of leaves into my garden.  Then I mowed over them with the lawn mower (my husband was at work at the time - he probably would have yelled at me for doing that as I'm sure it's not good for the lawn mower).  This way there are tiny pieces of leaves (and newspaper from my newspaper mulch) that will decompose in no time for next year's growing season.

So go!  Compost!  Your garden will thank you!

CVS, Walmart & Roxie's - Oh My!

We hit up a few stores the past few days for things we ran out of.  Then I kind of went on a baking supply shopping spree.  I'll have cookies coming out of my ears this year.

Trip 1 - CVS

1 Half & Half - $3.29
Total - $3.29

I told the husband to pick some up on his way home from work.  That's what he got.

Trip 2 - Walmart

1 Crisco - $4.54
5 lbs Sugar - $2.24
Total - $6.78

Trip 3 - Another Walmart

4 Nestle Morsels - $1.78 ea
2 Libby Pumpkins - $1.37 ea
2 Eagle Sweetened Condensed Milk - $1.50 ea
1 Argo Corn Starch - $1.27
1 Jet-Puffed Mini Marshmellows - $1.34
Powdered Sugar - $1.50
Pine Room Spray - $2.00
Friehoffer's Bread - $1.97
1 Reynold's Parchment Paper - $2.84 ($1/1 MFC from paper) $1.84

Total - $22.78

- I went to Walmart on my way to Roxie's to get Corn Starch, Parchment Paper and Powdered Sugar.  What I found is that have some wicked cheap baking stuff.  So I went a little crazy.  I really don't shop at Walmart for groceries because, well I just don't.  I have 2 Walmarts near me.  One is small and their grocery department isn't that big (it's seriously one of the smallest Walmarts I have ever been in).  The bigger one is always busy.  It's just not worth it to go there (plus, it can be a little scary at times). I went at 8:30 am, it was dead, and I regretted not bringing my coupons.

Trip 4- Roxie's

Boneless, Skinless Chicken Thigh Filets - $2.31
2 lbs Carrots - .89
Half a Butternut Squash - .74
2.2 lbs Family Pack Steak - $9.45
3.4 lbs Chuck Roast - $9.88
2 Plumrose Bacon - $1.99 ea
5 lbs Potatoes - $1.49
1 stray kitten who wanted to attack my meat - $200 at the MSPCA

Total (minus cat) - $28.74

The Rugged Bear - 20% of EVERYTHING!

For those of you in New England, you might be familiar with the Rugged Bear.  It's a high-end kids store.  From now until 11/25, you get 20% off EVERYTHING!  Now honestly, most of their regular prices are very sky high - but you can find some great things on clearance.  Couple those prices with the 20% off and you can get some pretty decent kids clothes for very little.

To shop online or find a store near you, check out The Rugged Bear Online.

CVS Glade Money Maker for Me

I went to CVS.  I made money on the Glade deal.  You can probably get 4 refills for free.  Here is what happened:

1 Glade Sense & Spray - $6 ($4/1 MFC from paper, $2 peelie on pack - cashier scanned both) FREE
1 Glade Sense & Spray Refill - $3 ($1/1 MFC from paper) $2
1 Glade Scented Oil Refill - $3 ($2/1 peelie on pack) $1

Total OOP:  $3
ECBs Earned:  $4
Money Maker of $1

The scented oils (French Vanilla & Apple Cinnamon) in my store had $2/1 peelies on them.  So if you buy 4 of them, you'll pay $4 OOP but you'll get $4 ECBs back.  Not sure if all the CVSs have the scented oil refills with $2 peelies on them...

USPS - Request Free Flat Rate Boxes!

If you have to ship gifts to people this holiday season, consider requesting free Flat Rate boxes from the USPS.  The boxes are free, but you still have to pay shipping (I think it starts at $4.95 and goes up to $15 depending on size).  I'm not really sure - I know the large ones are either $12 or $15.

Click this link HERE to request your 5 pack today (or 4 pack if you want a variety).  They'll deliver them to your door for you.  While you are there, consider purchasing your stamps online too (you know, for all those free Christmas cards you just got!).  I personally like this service.  Apparently I'm too lazy to go 1/3 of a mile up to my post office to purchase stamps.  Stamps to have a $1.00 shipping charge.  But you can pick out the ones you want (most years, my post office is out of the Christmas ones).

Massachusetts Farmers Markets - Some Still Open!

Yo!  Did you know some Farmers Markets are still going on and a few even go on ALL WINTER LONG (shout out to Natick, Wayland, Plymouth, East Longmeadow, Newburyport, & North Attleboro!).

Boston Family Life just wrote up a good post about the ones that are still going on in November and the ones that stay open.  Check it out HERE

So with Thanksgiving approaching, check them out!  I want to give a special shout out to the Quincy Farmers Market!  That place is grrrreat!  Did you know that even a lobsterman goes there and sells Lobster?  That's pretty cool (Oh how I would love to eat Lobster instead of nasty Turkey this Thanksgiving!).

So just spreading the word about the farmers markets...

-  The cashier actually asked me how I always get great coupons to print out.  I just told her I work the sales to my favor.  The lady behind me made a comment about how coupons aren't worth it because they make you buy things you normally wouldn't.  I understand, but heavens, I'm not brand picky at all.  Getting a bunch of tomato sauce, peanut butter and soup for dirt cheap works for me (regardless of brand), it will be eaten and no, in fact, I wouldn't buy these things if I didn't have coupons for them because I would feel ripped off if I didn't have coupons!!

Kellogg's Fuel For School Rebate - & $70 off any Dell Inspiron!

That Kellogg's Fuel-For-School Rebate that was going on in August and September came in the mail today! A $10 Check and a $70 coupon off any Dell Inspiron and Studio Laptop!

I'm actually not going to be buying a Dell anytime soon, so if anyone wants a coupon code for $70 off a Dell Inspiron or Studio Laptop, leave a comment with your email and I'll send it to you. I'd hate to see $70 go to waste!

Staples Backpack Rewards Finally Came!

Back in August, Staples ran a sale where you get back the cost of any backpack in Staples rewards. I finally got mine today! Woohoo! $15 in free Staples crap! I'll probably just use it to buy printer ink. I'm boring like that.

Amazon/Coinstar $10 Bonus!

Cash in $40 or more dollars with your change at Coinstar for an Amazon Gift Card and get a bonus $10 gift card mailed to you! Offer good until 12/6/09. Check out all the details HERE

Shaw's Milk Run!

I needed milk.  I was set to go up to Tedeschi's but realized it would be cheaper at Shaw's.

Started with $20 in CATs

Total Before Savings:  $38.67
Total Preferred Savings:  $12.12
Total Coupons:  $24.40
Cash OOP:  $2.15
OYNP Coupons Earned:  $15.00

CAT (X1)
12 Progresso Soups - PSP $2.50, Sale $1.49 (4 $1.10/3 MFCs from SmartSource.com and Coupons.com)

Cash OOP for CAT (to generate $15 CATs):  $13.48 - so since I had to get milk and use $20 in CATs, I needed fillers!  I thought the milk was $3.69, so I would be all set with 2 gallons to put me over $20.  But the price went down to $2.99!  Darn it!  I would only be at $19.46.  But I knew I needed Chili Powder, so I grabbed that to put me over.

Non-Cat Fillers
2 Gallons of milk - $2.99 ea
1 Shaw's brand Chili Powder - $2.69

Things I learned:

-  Darn it Shaw's!  Why did you have to go and lower the price of milk on me!

-  Here's a good example of how "newbies" can learn about this.  Buy 12 cans of soup (believe me, you'll eat it all this winter).  Even if you don't want to go to Coupons.com, BettyCrocker.com or SmartSource.com, you'll still only pay $17.88 out of pocket.  BUT, the kicker is that you'll get a coupon for $15 off your next purchase.  Cheap, good soup!

-  Remember, this deal doubles and even triples.  Good deals to be had!  These CAT coupons will come in handy for most who are doing their Thanksgiving grocery shopping at Shaw's.

-  My kids stole a candy bar.  I didn't realize it unitl I was out of the car and one was already buckled into his seat.  I got him out and I made them return it to the cashier and say "sorry".  She was giving me the look of "Who cares!  Lady, you just "stole" a butt load of groceries from me and you care about a stupid candy bar?"  But I felt better about that.  In the car home, I told my 3 year-old he can't steal things because the police will come after him and put him in jail.  He responded by saying that if the policemen ever chase him, he'll just run away from them.  Looks like I might have to start stocking up on things to donate to my local prison.

Shaw's Coupon Policy? The Best I Could Find...

In light of all the people having issues with some coupons doubling and others not, I went on a Google search.  The following is the closest thing I can find for the "Official Shaw's Coupon Policy".   I personally have only encountered one cashier who manually "undoubled" coupons.

Well anyways, here is the best "Shaw's Coupon Policy" I could find on the internet.  I grabbed it off of Hot Coupon World, by clicking HERE.   This is a post from HeyaHeather (thanks Heather for posting back in June of 2008!):

I have asked to get clarification of Shaw’s Corporate Coupon Policy again. The following is the response that I got from a Customer Care Representative. I asked a great deal more questions than I did last year, so that I could get down to the nitty gritty. If you have any further questions or concerns, you should contact Shaw's customer service center at 1-877-932-7948. I personally have found that I get a better response by going through their website.

Coupon policies can vary from area, district, and store.

GENERAL POLICY information. Please keep in mind these may vary from area to area, as noted above.

3. Customer must purchase product in the size(s) specified on the coupon.

4. Expired coupons will not be honored.

5. ONE MANUFACTURER'S COUPON and ONE COMPANY coupon may be redeemed on the same item, providing the value of the coupon is not more than the price of the item. However, only the manufacturer’s coupon will be doubled.

7. The following coupons are redeemed at face value and are not doubled:

(unless prohibited by law)

MANUFACTURER COUPONS: ONE manufacturer's coupon may be accepted PER ITEM for items that are legally permitted. An example of an item not legally permitted in Massachusetts would be cigarette and tobacco coupons. Additionally, please note the following...

1. We double valid manufacturers' coupons with a value of up to 99 cents. Coupons over 99 cents are redeemed at face value. (e.g., 75 cent manufacturer's coupon will be doubled to $1.50; a $1.00 manufacturer's coupon will be redeemed at the face value of $1.00).

2. No more than 6 like ITEMS may be purchased per customer per day using the Double Manufacturer's Coupon offer.

3. Redemption may not exceed the value of the item you are purchasing.

4. We accept up to a total of 6 triple store coupons in any combination of Shaw's and/or a competitor on manufacturer coupons valued up to 99 cents.

5. Coupons excluded from doubling or tripling coupons include: coupons for cigarette and tobacco products, coupons for free items, and coupons that state "do not double".

INTERNET COUPONS

1. MANUFACTURERS' INTERNET COUPONS follow the same restrictions stated above, as well as the following restrictions: Coupons must be printed from a computer printer (no photocopies) and MUST SCAN. We will NOT accept manufacturer internet coupons for free product (including buy one/get one free) or that have a value great than $4.99. Altered coupons will NOT be accepted.

2. SHAW'S INTERNET COUPONS are accepted with some restrictions. The coupons must include "Shaw's" and must be printed from a computer printer (no photo copies). All coupon requirements must be met. Unless otherwise stated on the coupon, there is a limit of ONE COUPON for EACH TYPE per CUSTOMER. Shaw's Internet Coupons will not exceed $10, will not be doubled or tripled, and cannot exceed the value of the item purchased. Altered coupons will NOT be accepted.

COMPETITOR COUPONS, the Shaw's Division competitor coupon acceptance policy varies by area, district, and store. Individual Store Directors have the discretion to accept or decline these coupons on a competitive basis. Only grocery stores are considered competitors. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our customer service center at 1-877-932-7948.

-  My Shaw's is still stocked up full of the sale things.  So I don't feel guilty working this deal more than once.  Remember - if you don't need these items, your food pantry does!

Hot Coupon at the Door of BJ's!

From 11/6 - 11/8, BJ's has some good coupons at the door! The best one in my opinion was the "Buy 5 lbs of Mott's Granny Smith Apples, get a 2pk (4 crusts) of Pillsbury Pie Crusts for Free". The apples are $5.99 for 5 lbs. The pie crusts are $4.99. Remember! These can be frozen and used for your holiday baking!

Good Deal on Sleep Sacks and Disney DVDs today!

Thanks to Celeste from Itty Bitty Bistro for passing on this info!  I'll try to scope out some good toy deals in the next few weeks in case you are looking for cheap presents.  Personally, I think the biggest rip off these days is the actual mall...but then again, when you are forced to go with 2 toddlers, you just end up losing your mind!  How mothers shopped before the internet is beyond me!

Kid's Woot has Halo SleepSack Wearable Blanket for $3. Shipping is $5 for up to 3, so you get 2 for $11 or 3 for $14.  These run about $25 everywhere else.
Amazon has the "Up" 4-disc Combo Pack w/ Digital Copy & DVD on Blu-Ray (pre-order) for $19.99. You may save $10 on a second Blu-Ray of your choice when you enter code DISNEYBD at checkout. Thanks mugupo on Slick Deals!  Note, this title will be released on Nov 10, 2009

A Great, Frugal, Environmental-Friendly Christmas Gift Idea

A friend of mine on Facebook had the sweetest status update.  I have to share it!  She is painting her childhood dollhouse and will be giving it to her 3 year-old for Christmas this year.  I just think this is wonderful!  It's a great example of how you don't need to spend a lot of money and still have an outstanding Christmas for your wee little ones.  Not only will it bring her and her husband together to do something really nice for their daughter, but her daughter will love it just as much as a brand new dollhouse.  In years to come, she'll probably learn to cherish it even more when she learns that it was once "Mommy's" dollhouse.  It's frugal, environmentally friendly, and a true gift that comes from the heart.

I love ideas like this...in the words of Linus Van Pelt, "That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown!"

Are you planning anything spectacular like this for Christmas?  It kind of made me think outside the box - so I went to my attic.  I remember when I was pregnant with my first son, I started crocheting a blanket.  So I found it and finished it off.  I don't know who I am going to give it to, but it's now in my pile of stuff to wrap.

Fisher Price.com Free Shipping Code

My son has been obsessed with getting one GeoTrax train from Santa this year - Goggles & Bunsen.  I can't find it at the stores, but FisherPrice.com has had it on sale/clearance for $8.99.  I've been tempted to just get it with a few others and pay the $7.99 or $9.99 shipping charge.  But I didn't.  I was happy to wake up today to find an email from Fisher Price today for FREE SHIPPING on any order from now until 11/11.  So I got Goggles & Bunsen, as well as a another train for my other son and an expansion pack.

It says you have to click through the email, but I don't believe them.  Enter code FREEM and you should score free shipping (I did).  Replace the catalog code digits with that code and it should work.

Surprisingly, FisherPrice.com has really good prices.  At least I think so.  I really only look at the GeoTrax and Imaginex stuff these days.  I'm just surprised.  Even Amazon prices on GeoTrax are, for the most part, worse than FP.

With this last purchase, I am officially done with my Christmas shopping!  I have bags and bags of stuff tucked away in the attic.  It's going to be fun going up there with the husband near Christmas to wrap it all - since by then, I'm sure to really forget everything that I have picked up.  Now I can concentrate on better things - like cooking and decorations!

-  2 "good" coupons that are good from 11/6-8.  $10 off Pampers and Pampers wipes.  The Pampers are $42.99.  There is a huge box of wipes for $24 (I think there were 1200 wipes in it).  Remember to couple these with MFCs to get a better deal.  The other one is for $8 off Bounty and Charmin.  Again, there was just a $1/1 Bounty in the newspaper this week and there are $1 offs in the P&G Year of Savings coupon book.  Obviously you aren't getting these products for free or anything, but if you are buying these products anyways, might as well save on them.

Piperlime Order Arrived: No Gift Card

Remember last week (the 27th to be exact), if you ordered anything from Piperlime, you got a $25 gift card?  Well I got my box today, but there is no gift card in there.  I shall call them to inquire.  Anyone know what the story is?

**Updated:  So I called Piperlime.  I got some sort of crazy answer.  They said some people had an e-mail code sent to them (I didn't - just checked spam and other folders).  Some people will have them in the box with their shipment.  I did not.  Then I guess they are going to mail out some on November 4th to those who didn't get any.  He told me to call back in like a week if I didn't get it.  I don't understand why they just don't do it one way and one way only. **

Have you gotten your $25 gift card?  How?

Christmas Tree Shop Coupons!

Tis the season for 20% off at The Christmas Tree Shop!  Click the picture and print it.  Thanks to Celeste at IttyBittyBistro.com for forwarding this to me.  As you can see, this is good from Tues. November 10th - Tuesday November 17th.

Quick BJ's Run

Had to run to BJ's for juice bags and some other stuff.  I got carried away.

BJ's Apple Juice - $3.89
8 lbs Mac Apples - $6.99
1 package of Sandwich rolls - $3.29
2 Half & Half quarts - $1.99 ea
3 lbs Grapes - $6.79
3 lbs Cheddar Cheese - $6.39
1 CapriSun Flavored Waters - $7.49

Total OOP:  $38.82

-  Why oh why did I go to BJ's on a Saturday?  That situation sucks.  I'll have to get more responsible and go to BJ's on the weekdays.  The lines weren't too bad, but there are just so many people and their ginormous shopping carts.  Oh then I caused a nice scene because I couldn't find my BJ's card and spilled the contents of my wallet on the ground.  The service desk looked up my info, and brought it to the cashier - and at that time, I found my BJ's card.  I really have a hard time getting with it sometimes.

"Wasting" ExtraCare Bucks...

Total Before Savings:  $19.56
Total Coupons Used:  $2.00
Total ECBs Used:  $10.00
Cash OOP:  $2.56

1 CVS Sleep Diaper things - Clearance for $4.99
1 CVS Toddler Wipe Container - $2.49
2 CVS Toddler Wipe Refills - $3.49 ea.

I had $10 ECBs that expired in 2 days.  There was just nothing at CVS I really needed or wanted.  I tried to score some cheap Halloween stuff for next year but there was just garbage left.  So I stocked up on Toddler Wipes.  Oh how exciting.  When I went in and scanned my card, I got a $2 off $10 CVS purchase.  At least it's something.  I'm so blah with CVS lately.

The other day, I took my 3 year-old to CVS to get his flu shot.  My pediatrician only gave it to my 2 year-old.  It's a long, stupid story as to why he wouldn't give my 3 year-old one, so I just CVSed Minute Cliniced it up.  Of course we had to get treats there after....

1 bag of Doritos - $2.00 (for me!)
1 20 oz. soda - $1.59
1 Tootsie Pop Bunch - .50
1 Halloween lollipop strip - .99
